Cylindrical panoramas
Some pictures, for which the zenith and nadir display is not required (for example, landscapes, city scenes and the other open spaces), can be produced in the form of the cylindrical panoramas.
Cylindrical panorama, just as the spherical panorama, has the 360° horizontal field of view(FoV). But its vertical field of view is smaller, that’s why one can’t view the “overhead and underfoot” spaces, which are called zenith and nadir, in the cylindrical type of VR panorama. That is the only difference of the cylindrical panorama from spherical. All the other capabilities of the spherical panorama (the virtual tour production, ananimation and sound addition, etc.) can be applied to cylindrical panoramas also.
Cylindrical panorama. This one has 360°х 68° FoV The cylindrical panorama viewers are the same as for the spherical 3D ones. Besides the standard 3d display mode there’s an flat “endless stripe” mode for the cylindrical panoramas. You can see the difference by viewing the examples below:
